Firefox plugins: make it del.icio.us

delicious_cake.jpg
Recently I went through an anti-Firefox phase. It was not anything Firefox did wrong mind you.  It came down to the fact that I was tired of my browser not having all the functionality I was looking for. So during that time period of Firefox rejection, I played with Opera, Maxthon, and even a little Flock and found good qualities in each, but in the end.

None of them worked for me.

Opera's bookmarks make me cry. Maxthon had online bookmarks, which was awesome. But in the end, it is build around an IE7 shell and fails in rendering some pages properly  It definitely doesn't like the MT4(Movable Type) input text fields.  Flock seemed nice, but every plugin I installed seemed to barf back at me. (And yes they were "Flock" plugins, not "Firefox" so don't be calling me a doofus.)  So this weekend, I was determined to make Firefox suit my needs.

Goal - Online Bookmarks in Firefox

One thing that bothers me about most browsers is that I have to keep adding bookmarks to every new machine I'm on.  Like I had mentioned before, Maxthon has an online synchronizer built in, so I was looking for something similar in functionality to that.  I found out that Firefox can kinda do this through a plugin.  My travels first led me to utilizing the Online BookmarkManager Synchronizer.  It was nice and all, but was to slow for my tastes.  So in the end I decided to implement a grander scheme of bookmarking, by deciding to stop using browser bookmarks completely.  All of my future bookmarks are going to be stored in Yahoo's bookmarking service,  del.icio.us

First I installed the del.icio.us buttons, and  I was able to add/tag any page I liked and instantly had it stored to my del.icio.us account.  That was awesome, except for one thing.  I couldn't easily click on a bookmark I had just stored, I had to navigate to my del.icio.us page on the internet then sift through my tags from there. No Beuno :(

Then I found, del.icio.us bookmarks it allowed me to search/browse my bookmarks, access my bookmarks at any time.  Now I can keep them organized how I see fit, and as a bonus I'm even allowed to import any existing bookmarks I already had!!!   Ctrl+B even brings out the sidebar!

Also if you utilize bundles(folders) inside del.icio.us, you can organize a bar to show groupings of your links.  For example, I have a bundle I call _daily, where I can access (Gmail, Digg, Facebook, Google reader, ect).  I also have one for web analytics, where i can access all the sites I check constantly for this site.
