7 Things I want in a new Apple Newton

newton.jpg

Recently there's been some buzz about Apple is reportedly working on a new PDA, marking a return to a market the company abandoned in the late 90s with the demise of the Newton. (I think I still have mine somewhere in storage).  According to reports, a team within Apple is working on a new mobile computer, utilizing the same multi-touch technology as the iPhone/iPod Touch. The device is said to utlize the Max OS X Leopard as the operating system.

Apple Insider indicates, that the PDA would use the multi-touch features like drag-and-drop, copy-and-paste (I sure as well hope so), making it feel more like the desktop of your computer (ala Windows Mobile).

Unfortunately, not much more information is available and best guess is that Macworld in January would be a good time for an announcement of some sort.  Since it's obviously still in development, if it's even being made, I'd like to let Apple know 7 things that I'd like to see implemented in their new PDA. If I remeber right the last Newton's code name was, Q.  So my vote for the name is, iQ.

I can think of a crap stack more things I'd want in a PDA, but these are items that I'd thought they could improve on from their iPod touch/iPhone lines.

1.  WiFi & Bluetooth - The iPhone already has bluetooth for use with wireless headsets, so please keep both of these features.

2.  High Screen Quality - Do not f*** us over again with these, please learn your lesson.  Do not stick us with iPod Touch screen issues.

3.  Buttons - It's Ok to have buttons for usability.  Also There is no feedback when a button is pressed on the phone. When you press a button on your current cell-phone, you feel the button press in. You have some sort of feedback. A touch-screen doesn't have this.

4.  Improved Keyboard Design -  Or at least at a minimum, allow the keyboard to be utilized when holding it horizontally & vertically.

5.  Web Camera - We've got one with a still camera, one without.  Both with youtube, hrms....somethings seems missing.

5.  Microphone - Didn't think I should have to list this separately, but then again I'm shocked it's not standard in the iPod.

6.  GPS - With this feature alone, I'd buy it.

7. FM Radio - Is it really to hard to ask for Apple, you know most people ask for it with your regular iPods.
